Regarding all this wrangling about the prices and/or values of small airplanes, I'm a private, graduated to sport pilot (as seems to be the case with a number of writers) and my opinion is that the Ercoupe is the best bang for the buck. Period. Yes, I think tail draggers are great but my wife doesn't, nor do the insurers and so many are tandem and sans starter. I got a project for $8K, am now over $20K and I have a trike with Mode-C transponder, in panel Comm, intercom, 2 GPSs and an attitude indicator - all set in the original style art deco panel (which turns me on) and, all around, a good, sound little aircraft (415-C, C-85-12). With good old 20-20 hindsight, I might have been able to do a bit better economically, but I jumped in the week after the FAA made Sport official, and I expect I ought to get my money back if I bailed (but why would I want to do that?). I get to fly again with my wife sitting next to me. Whadda deal!
Merry Christmas (or greeting of your liking on this day of the peak of the solstice),
