Suppose you were a 23 year old reporter on the night desk of a small daily and somebody called in an said that a plane just crashed in a field near a prison and you had never heard of or seen something called a 415-D Ercoupe and had nowhere to go for reference in the time left before the paper's deadline? If some guy on a cellphone repeated what some cop told him the pilot(s) told him while being examined by a local medic over at the ambulance, it might come out a little garbled.
Likewise, you might find it hard to write a report about how much progress is being made in Iraq when somebody's shooting at you or trying to blow your backside off on a daily basis. Been there, didn't like it.
It's all relevant or irrelevant, depending on your POV. None of us has the same collection of experiences to fall back on.
Sorry, I'm just another one of those touchy Ercoupers, I guess. ;)
