Looking at the FreeType 2 features, there isn't anything saying that
OpenType support is lacking... they seem to be presenting it as a
first class citizen along with TrueType.

It does support some tables AFAIK. The problem is, you need a specific
implementation
to use what they provided. They give us glyph faces and a few tables,
that's all, and we
must try to use them since freetype isn't a text subsystem.
