i had time to think some more on this and thought that being able to relate/link objects together would open up many possibilities, see: http://brian.muhumuza.googlepages.com/working_with_objects.html Overall, very well thought out. I have a couple of concerns, which you may have already thought through but which are not represented here. 1. The Shelf doesn't seem scalable enough to allow for many Projects. How do you envision managing dozens or even hundreds of Projects? Would there be some type of Project Management view or screen?
I haven't thought this out but i guess it wouldn't be possible to put 100 projects in this shelf the same way 100 icons will not "fit" in a dock or on the desktop. I'd like to think the shelf holds a user's most frequently used projects and the rest are in the user's home. 2. "Objects/windows that do not belong to any project cannot be shoved
anywhere. So, the strip for minimized objects (on the right) is split, and such windows occupy the lower part." Should it even be possible to create documents that exist outside of a Project? That could get very messy if we don't have a traditional file manager.
I think a file manager of some sort is really essential because our computer's are like book library. Without a file/object manager, things will get very messy. I'll have to look at this some more because projects on the shelf and those viewed in the file/object manager don't seem to work consistently. 3. I have some concerns about using a right-click, as that makes it much
less portable to a pen/stylus/finger-operated tablet interface. The way you used it (for opening then auto-minimizing documents) is not very crucial, so we could probably allow it. But, it is something I'd like us all to keep in mind when we're doing UI concepting. Additionally, Quentin's questions apply for me as well. Thanks again -- nice work! I'm not sure if a project is equivalent to a folder but are there reasons why it should or shouldn't be? Thanks for the feed back. -- Happy day ------------- Brian
