I personally agree that the mechanical brakes should be pretty much capable of standing alone. However, Lots of us drive cars with power steering and brakes which can and do fail at the most inconvenient of times. It is a matter of reward/risk and we all have a right to our own comfort zones as long as we don't carelessly endanger our fellow drivers.
Ideally the risk/reward is well understood by the decision maker. The ev list is tremendously valuable in this regard and I'm sure the developers of regen are listening to the debate (which is of course a recurring theme but with minor twists and occasional "new" ideas and experiences). - GT
