As someone mentioned, create a separate SMTP connector to pipex.net and play with settings. For example dumb it down by forcing it to use HELO instead of EHLO.
Also try to play with message formats to pipex.net, maybe this is a UTF7 vs UTF8 issue. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Gavin Hall Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2004 7:11 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Mail queuing up in SMTP Virtual Server Windows 2000 Server SP4 Exchange 2000 SP3 Over the past few days I have noticed that for one external site, SMTP mail regularly builds up, introducing delays of up to an hour before delivery. I have checked the SMTP logs for the Virtual server and can see that the connection is timing out:- 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionCommand [24/Feb/2004:11:37:36 +0000] "EHLO -?mailhost.gap.co.uk SMTP" 0 4 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionResponse [24/Feb/2004:11:37:36 +0000] "- -?250-funhouse.systems.pipex.net SMTP" 0 30 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionCommand [24/Feb/2004:11:37:36 +0000] "MAIL -?FROM:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>+SIZE=3665 SMTP" 0 4 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionResponse [24/Feb/2004:11:37:36 +0000] "- -?250+Ok SMTP" 0 6 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionCommand [24/Feb/2004:11:37:36 +0000] "RCPT -?TO:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> SMTP" 0 4 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionResponse [24/Feb/2004:11:37:37 +0000] "- -?250+Ok SMTP" 0 6 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionCommand [24/Feb/2004:11:37:37 +0000] "DATA - SMTP" 0 4 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionResponse [24/Feb/2004:11:37:37 +0000] "- -?354+End+data+with+<CR><LF>.<CR><LF> SMTP" 0 35 . Several other connections to other sites are mentioned in the log files, then this line pops up! . . 62.241.160.71 - OutboundConnectionResponse [24/Feb/2004:11:47:42 +0000] "- -?421+Error:+timeout+exceeded SMTP" 0 27 The SMTP Virtual Server is working fine for other external sites, so I'm a little confused!! The mail entry is marked up for a retry and eventually goes through. I have manually connected to the external site in question using Telnet and the remote system is performing as expected, there are no excessive delays. Can anybody shed any further light/suggestions?
