Well, that's another problem.  I have no idea what type of RAM it
uses.  He's been thinking about upgrading the RAM for almost a year now,
but we have no idea about RAM type.  I would **guess** EDO 72pin SIMMs,
but if I buy it and it doesn't work, I'm down $75 (for only 32MB more).

Anyway, John specifically:

What GUI (if any) do you use?
What daemons should I (he) disable?
Any other ideas for making his system more usable?
