Did you try the (dirty) way I proposed in my previous mail?
Over here it works fine.
I just "cat"ted 28 .pdf files into one 7.1mb chunk. Pictures et all copied 
fine giving me a 298 page file.
Takes longer too load than to make thoug:o(
BTW the (big) intermediate .ps file wasn't loadable strangely enough, the .pdf 
is.
