Ah well, maybe someone smarter than me can port vi to palmos... =)

See, we're on the same page here - c'mon 'someone', get to portin' =)

Seriously though, it seems we have similar problems; cost too much
for the ones that do what you want. By the time you outfit one to
do the things you want, you're about $100 shy of a brand new
laptop. I did check out that ssh client for Palm though, I didn't
have much luck with it.

Well, I have to make my palm do a net connection over bluetooth before I can
attempt the ssh thing.

I really should have gotten the 802.11b version. <sigh> Would have solved
that problem easily.

The thing is, for me at least, justifying the cost of these critters. The one you've just mentioned likely costs around $600. For that kind of money I might as well purchase a laptop and get all the functionality I'd need as opposed to a small and very "resource" limited palm pilot which is really only designed to be an electronic databook. The way they're going though puts me in mind of where cell phones are going.

One of my sons recently purchased a $500 T-Mobile unit that he can get internet based news, text messages, email, and it darn thing also takes pictures! for pete's sake...its a Phone! And his reception is terrible. I have a little nokia that "only" does phone calls and can "receive" text messages through ATT&T and I haven't been any place where I can't get reception. ( it cost $40 )
