Chris R,
I spoke with another electrical engineer that I work with about closed loop ECUs on bikes and he said that having an exhaust gas sensor didn't necessarily mean the vehicle's ECU was maintaining the mixture in a totally closed loop system.

That sensor may only be be acting as a "limit" control or as a diaginostic.

He is checking this weekend at the Honda dealership to find out for sure.
Going to try to dig into the factory manual.

Did you have a good reference already on this?
He'd be interested.

He also mentioned that bikes are getting cats now in order to clean them up.

He currently races a 2002 1000cc bike and is looking to buy a new Honda 600 to replace it to have a more up to date motor and chassis. Too much HP and too little handling currently.

Somehow, they continue to make the 600s better -more HP and less weight every year. Honda has knocked off an amazing 10+ pounds.
