My God, we share a love for bees!
I must confess that I also have a secret love for
flies. I love the way they wash their faces, like a
cat. I watched flies for the better part of the day
once and discovered that they do not fly!!! If they
could fly, they couldn't land on the ceiling, and they
do land on the ceiling--which is aerodynamically
impossible. So I reasoned that their locomotion
through the air is like swimming, not like flying,
and, when I researched it, I found that many insects
cannot fly. They swim in air.

Since I'm a translator (among other things), I've
always heard this stupid analogy: Translators are like
bumblebees; if they knew anything about aerodynamics,
they couldn't fly. Similarly, if translators knew
anything about linguistics, they couldn't translate."
Well, when I discovered that flies don't fly, I
understood that translators also don't fly from one
language to another, instead, they swim in sense.
