Does Polanski's case make his films any less worthy? He IS one of our
great filmmakers.

On another point commentators frequently bring up Woody Allen. Well,
his "daughter" was adopted. In a documentary on his dixieland band one
could see she is very mature for her age and understood very well his
business. One local radio commentator when this became a big outrage
years ago said "let's see she had the choice to pair up with some young
guy who might turn out to be a loser or spend some of your life with a
world figure filmmaker, a very interesting person." How many women here
would make the latter choice. I note that in some Asian cultures some
young women will jump on the chance to marry a much older successful
man. I have a friend who a few years back married a twenty something
Asian women. He was almost 50 (and also a former TM teacher). His
family had no problem with it at all. They have some kids now. She
will most likely outlive him and enjoy a comfortable old age. I think
sometimes those cultures think that way. The American culture is much
more short sighted.
