You mention that you felt nervous from TM. Did you feel that it was more 
stimulating than relaxing? Most of those techniques, especially the 
advanced techniques are stimulating mantras. You may need to do the 
calming ones instead. Stimulating mantras will also make you more vata. 
No wonder so many yogis in India use Ashwaganda which counteracts vata. 
As we age we become more vata. Many people as they age have adrenal 
insufficiently. The adrenals just don't work like they used to and hence 
they feel tired a lot of the time. In that case people need to do things 
to rebuild their bodies and strengthen the adrenals (calming meditations 
will help).
