Bought it for my girlfriend for her birthday (might have been Christmas)
a couple years ago as it was in the list of top 5 fantasy books and
looked interesting. (also might have been the only one on there we
hadn't read) She enjoyed it so between me and her brother we bought the
rest of the series for her for various events. I started reading the
books when she was done with them but hen got impatient waiting for her
to finish a book so I started buying them for myself instead :p
