I'll make an attempt on this. I think craft would be anything
handmade. This could be something original, from a kit or printed
directions. Presumably fiber art has more content either design
content or more- psychological content- about something- making a
statement. It is also original. It might be an elaborate design
with complex color interaction. It might also be short on esthetics
but in your face with a statement, such as political art. There is
lots of political textile art. In part this is because handwork has
been associated with women's work. Many traditional forms of
textiles lend themselves to political expression. The form is
accessible to people and draws you into the message. Faith Ringgold
is an artist known for her story quilts. They are beautiful but full
of content and message. She did a series War No More. Her work can
be found in a children's book called Tar Beach.
So a sweater kit designed by a fiber artist still only makes you a
craftsperson if you make it up. I would say most fiber artists are
craftsmen but not necessarily the other way around. A good source of
fiber art is the magazine Fiber Arts or Surface Design Journal.
Hope this helps.

Recently I was in a discussion with someone about they do 'crafts'
and not 'fibre/fiber art'. I was hard pressed to come up with a good
difference. Can anyone help?
