As a matter of absolute fact, I make my living without DIRECT government support, but it's not from lack of trying. I just haven't been able to pry any grants from any level of government, ever, and I gave up after a while. I subsidize my own art by doing work that I am paid for that I would not do if I wasn't paid. On the other hand, several groups that I participate in DO get grants, so in that way I am partially supported by public money. Most of them also get private grants from individuals and corporations, but I'm sure that the l'Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke would go broke without its Canada Arts Council grant, and I would thus be out of a job. Even most of the jazz groups I play with get CBC radio and TV broadcasts, Centre de la Culture concerts, parks concerts, and jazz festival gigs that are government supported to varying degrees, and get some help recording CDs that will never break even. Does that count? Christopher _______________________________________________ Finale mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
