Because I *do* want both piano staves optimized away if there is no music in either hand.
Or take another piece I engraved recently, for wind quartet and string quartet. I wanted all 4 wind staves to appear if there was music in any one of them, and all 4 string staves to appear if there was music in any one of them. Optimize in groups lets me do this.
