I am writing a set of songs with harp accompaniment, and I want a reasonably good playback of the normally rolled (arpeggiated) chords that have four notes in each hand. Since harpists will play large chords such as these without there being any articulation in the score, I am using a non-printing roll mark. The problem is: If I attach this mark to the left hand chord and also to the right hand chord, the playback will roll the chords simultaneously instead of from the lowest note in the left hand to the highest note in the right hand.
Here are some solutions I've tried: 1) Use the MIDI tool to assign delay times for all the individual notes of the first of these large chords, then use Mass Mover to copy only "Performance Data" to the other chords; 2) notate the complete chord in the lower staff, then use cross-staff notation to move the right-hand notes to the upper staff. The problem with this is there will be a stem connecting all of the notes (unless the chord is only whole notes). I don't want to fuss with "white-out" to get rid of the unwanted part of the stem; 3) notate the chord normally, then create a second non-printing articulation and adjust the playback of the articulations so that the the complete chord rolls properly from the bottom of the left hand to the top of the right hand.
I am using the first solution for the most part. Have any of you found a simpler solution? Is there a plug-in for this that I haven't discovered?
In piano music with large rolled chords I would use the normal roll articulation attached to the left-hand part of the chord and adjust it to cover the right-hand notes as well. I would still need to use the third solution above to get the playback right.
Thanks in advance for any help.
