But you don't even need a "valid serial number" to install any previous
version!  You can just type whatever you want into that box and it'll
install just fine.  The point of typing in your real serial number is to
have a record of it in easy reach (the About... panel has it) whenever
you need to contact MakeMusic.

If you really needed a "valid serial number" to unlock the program, all
of this copy protection stuff would be moot, a that would already be a
pretty viable copy protection scheme.
