Aaron,

I have not received my copy of Finale 2007 yet, so I can't confirm, but it looks like what Carla is talking about is just making sure Finale's Setup Wizard can see GPO and JABB. Very annoying that this isn't handled automatically!

But I don't think this will cause those libraries to be loaded using Kontakt Player 2.0. I think the libraries themselves need to be updated for that to happen. (I'd be happy to find out I'm wrong about this... )

The Native Instruments website appears to be down at the moment, but here's some info from the Finale website:

<http://www.finalemusic.com/finale/features/new/kontakt.aspx>

The most respected name in playback technology now comes included with Finale 2007 – absolutely free! Listen to your music played with stunning realism thanks to the integrated KONTAKT™ Player 2.

Easy updating - All "Powered by NI" libraries can now be loaded with
one player
One simple process authorizes both Finale 2007 and the
KONTAKT Player 2.
Optimized sample management - load multiple
instruments simultaneously
Optimized disk-streaming performance for large sample libraries
Increased maximum instruments and maximum voice polyphony
More audio outputs and more MIDI channels
KONTAKT script processor - offers custom instrument parameter control
Convolution effect - high quality reverb with acoustic space simulation Output mixer / Master effects - adjust instrument master levels and send effects from within the KONTAKT 2 Player interface
Sample purge - save memory (RAM) using an intelligent
"sample purge" option
Save your most-used instruments and multi-instrument setups for use between different projects
Instrument mute and solo for easy sound referencing
Metronome, master tune, reference tone
There is also the Universal Binary issue. My recollection is that the Kontakt Player 2 is Universal -- it would be a great disappointment if it were not. But that would also mean that for MacIntel owners, if only FinGPO loads using Kontakt Player 2, that means that only FinGPO plays back natively -- at least for the moment.

Perhaps someone else has more info on this?

Cheers,

- Darcy

Darcy, I was hoping you'd weigh in on this. This was my understanding as well, but I don't have full GPO, so I wasn't paying much attention.

There was a post yesterday on the Makemusic forums (<http:// forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=5&m=158638>) in which Carla mentioned just copying some files from the GPO install from your Fin06 directory to your Fin07 directory to get it to work.

It would be nice to have some kind of confirmation about this. If GPO full and JABB are not yet compatible with Kontakt 2, I'll bet that some people who rely on those libraries will want to hold off on their Finale upgrade.

Aaron.
