Slightly more often than never.

CPU upgrades, too.

It's almost never cost-effective to do either, since usually the 
newer CPUs/motherboards benefit a great deal from all the newer 
peripherals.

I don't upgrade my clients' hardware except in the most unusual 
circumstances. This is because I have them buy at the best price 
point, purchasing machines that will have long life (5+ years) 
without needing an upgrade. Often, these machines end up in use  
longer than that.

But I've never done motherboard or CPU upgrades because I don't 
consider them cost-effective.
