The word he's looking for is "notesetting," which is a synonym of "engraving." (See the subtitle of Steven Powell's book: "The Art and Practice of Digital Notesetting.")

I guess the reason he doesn't want to use this is because it isn't actually engraved - it is done using a computer. Is there any other word which might be used, which applies to the computer "setting" of music?

His argument is that "music setting" corresponds to "type setting".
