In compound meters with dotted half as the beat, I don't see any 
problem with a dotted quarter rest.

But values larger than that become quite problematic, in my opinion.

It seems to me that the principle I adduced from Darcy's post is a 
pretty good one:

- use dotted rests only for values of one beat or less.
