That's actually completely consistent with your stated preference for dotted rests in compound meters, because what you just articulated boils down to: - use dotted rests only for values of one beat or less. I don't see anything wrong with dotted half rests, but it's certainly possible for someone to miss the dot, and the alternative is hardly going to be fussier (and be unmissable). -- David W.
