Any idea which virtual orchestra? As has been said, Finale with Garritan runs very lightly. I run easy west symphonic orchestra gold and that runs best from an external FireWire. EWSI Platinum is best run from at least four separate drives for brass, wind, strings and percussion as it uses multiple mic setups for each instrument. I also use Miroslav Vitous orchestra and the full version of Garritan. A combination of internal drive and one FireWire with EWSI on it runs any combination of these. I seem to run out of processing power with a single instance of the new QL piano (which is very fine!) but a friend runs it from a G5 without problem. This is the only glitch I've ever had running from my old intel MacBook..
