already did that, actually.  no joy.  gets the same error.  KDE starts
to run, and then packs up at (i think) the fifth 'ball'.

hmmm.  curiouser and curiouser.  no such luck here.  tried running
enlightenment, IceWM and FVWM, in addition to OroborOS-X, and none of
them would seem to get past the start-up stage for the K-specific stuff.
is there some way I could set up XDarwin to run kwin independently of
the larger KDE setup, as presumably that would run the KOffice apps(?),
and would meet my requirements of rootless & a small footprint on my
elderly machine.
