Why should it matter what system your internal disk has if it's not
the currently active system volume>?

Fink is not known to be robust to being split over separate volumes
via symlinks; the only options which is officially supported are:

1)  An additional source directory (FetchAltDir), where the source
files get unpacked into /sw/src.

2)  An alternate build directory.
