Ok, I went and looked at the source, having immediately dismissed this the first time. As far as I can see libtool shouldn't be using a lockfile at all. I don't have a fink install right now. /sw/bin/glibtool --config | grep compiler_c_o should be yes, if not libtool will use lock files. In either case, please email me a copy of that glibtool so I can have a quick look.
