I don't mean that the code itself is entirely complex, I mean that
obviously more time and effort was spent on this issue than many other
issues in Firebug (tweaking and fixing issues) when many people
thought the previous model was fine with a little tweaking. I get it,
you don't agree. I just don't know where the idea that 1.3 was so
wildly hated came from, most of the talking I've seen on this list
since 1.3 was released are about 1.4 issues. I'm sure the 1.3 model
was disliked by some, byut how was it determined that that number was
or would be higher than those that would hate the 1.4 model?? I could
probably have made similar counter arguments about the 1.3 model
several months ago as you are making about the 1.4 model (that you
can't count the number of people complaining here as if they
represented all of the Firebug users) and so I can only assume that
the decision to change the activation model was a completely internal
one.

Also, in response to your comment a couple posts back about the team
being upset that people are complaining now as opposed to previously,
I think it only makes sense that a fraction of the people who read
this list are using the alphas, and only a fraction of those will talk
about anything in the alpha that isn't inherently broken. Lots of
people talked about and complained about the activation model during
the alpha period, but there wasn't a lot of response different from
what we are getting now.

But I don't want it off all the time.

You're missing my point completely here.

Right click Firebug
Check "On for all pages"
Go to http://www.yahoo.com [Firebug panel opens]
Minimize Firebug
Go to http://www.google.com [Firebug remains minimized correctly]

At this point, what I WANT to do is keep Firebug "minimized" but
disable it for http://www.google.com, so I:

Click the bug
Click the [x]
Go to http://www.yahoo.com [Firebug panel opens incorrectly, in my
opinion]

Currently there is no way to change this behavior, and that is a
problem. In my opinion, if "On for all pages" is checked and the
Firebug panel is not displaying at all (whether it is minimized or
closed), it should not be showing on any subsequent page loads until
the bug is clicked again.

I think that just highlights one of the problems with this model, but
I'll leave that whining now. :p
