Out of curiosity, what _is_ the point then? I've found Solaris to be
routinely and consistently more severly bug-ridden and slower to get fixed
than Linux. Sun hardware tends to be better, and more stable, than any but the
best grade of intel/PC gear, but the OS is poorer --- I'd expect Solaris/x86
to show poorer reliability and stability than a good, well-maintained release
of Linux (or FreeBSD, or NetBSD, or OpenBSD). And I'd expect the open source
OSes to delivery better reliability when run on comparably-good gear.

I definitely agree with this, but the OS I'd choose to strip would be Linux.
