I see that I misunderstood the "up to 25 people" statement on the gitter.im
main page. As @faho pointed out to me on gitter.im that limit only applies
to private rooms such as would be used by a development team for
discussions free from external input. It does not apply to the type of
public room the fish project is currently using at
https://gitter.im/fish-shell/fish-shell.
I heartily recommend replacing the IRC channel with the gitter.im public
room. It's tight integration with GitHub is a huge positive IMO. Updating
the documentation is easy. What else needs to be done? For example, what
about the travis-ci messages? How hard would it be to create a bot to
respond to any new message on IRC #fish with the gitter.im URL?
