Ok, I tested a bit more with an image of 1200x600 pixel 33,2kB:

- It only happens when I use my external monitor on 1680x1050pixel. The use of the internal monitor @1280x800 is ok. - It only happens then when I turn the window to full image on the external monitor (dont know what that is in english - PSDR-window uses complete monitor). If it is smaller than the whole monitor it works ok. If it is full image on the smaller monitor it is OK, too. - It does not happen if the Panadapter is "off" and the audio comes back faster on "phase".
- The smaller the image in pixel the faster audio comes back.

I think it is a timing problem between graphic adapter and ASIO4ALL - however that might effect each other.

So that should be a problem for 0,00001 % of Flex-Radio customers ;-)

I just tried it. 1600x800 single color. File size: 9kb

Keyed, release. Immediate Audio - no delay.

For grins, I used a 2mb file or a picture of my dog. 1600 x 800.

Keyed, release. Immediate Audio - no delay.

   Graham,

the buffers of ASIO4ALL and corresponding in PSDR are 1024 wide because
otherwise I have problems when I start other programs or surf in the
internet.
I have to make clear: The shown panadapter-image of the received signals
IS OK! You can see the whole 48kHz and the tuned station immediatley -
but you cant hear it!

The size of the .png HAS nothing to do with the problem because the size
of the original "default" picDisplay.png is 2,56 kB and the original
"IK3VIC cyan" is 16,8 kB (400x200).
My selfmade picDisplay.png with callsign has 4,86 kB and 600x300. From
this pixel-numbers (!) on the problem rises. The more pixel the oftener
it happens. It is the amount of pixels not the size of file.

@Ray J: thats a good point to check. I did not do that up to now. I will
try and report.

Could someone try on his own Vista-32-System and check if thats right
what I say? Perhaps it only exists on MY System and I have to do
research on my environment or on my damaged brain ;-)

Create an image 1600 x 800 pixel (e.g. with paint.net that I use) and
save it as "picDisplay.png". Accept the suggested conditions paint.net
gives (it will not be much bigger than 15 kB than) and store it e.g. to
the default skin folder (c:\users\/yourename/\AppData\Roaming\FlexRadio
Systems\PowerSDR\Skins\default\Console).
The effect should be that after release of ptt you see the panadapter
working ok but you cant hear anything for more than 10 seconds.

I share my created image if you like.

And again: I do not expect you to do work on this! It does not affect
the normal usage of the program. But I think if something like this
strange happens there could be much more strange effects within the
developement environment.

Martin:

This delay in starting audio stream is a symptom that you have set the
buffer sizes too small on
ASIO4ALL. Try increasing both the size of the ASIO4ALL Offline
controlled buffers to 256,
and the Startup/Audio buffers to 512 or 1024 and see if the problem
improves. Then you
can experiment with reducing the buffer sizes again.

Please note that the buffers inside of ASIO4ALL do not change until
you close PowerSDR
and restart. You may have to power cycle the FLEX-1500, to drop the
USB stream, also,
to allow the buffer size change.

So, I am guessing that the change in the size of the ".png" file has
nothing to do with the
delay in the audio stream restarting.

But you can never be sure with software. :-)

More likely, you changed the size of the ASIO4ALL buffers, didn't see
a change, so left
them small. Then, when you restarted everything after working on the
display, the smaller
buffers took effect, and the problems began.

If you want to improve the operation, we see that Windows 7 has much
improved audio
drivers, relative to XP or Vista. At this time, best operation will
be achieved with Windows 7,
using the Windows WASAPI driver. Long term we will have a new
FLEX-Radio USB driver
that will work with all operating systems, but this is not ready yet.

If you let it stay for a few minutes and than start audio (again)
it happens as described. Try it.
     Btw: OS is Vista 32.

You do not need to give this high priority but I wanted to inform
you because if such strange things happen there might be more
     strange behavior at all.

Shure, but if that is 2,8 kByte or 4.2 kByte does not realy
         matter for that.
And what has that to do with sound delay????
There is a function between no. of pixel in relation to
         seconds of sound missing.

Not realy important but somewhat strange...

                 Hi,

shame on me! I decided to change the background picture
                 (picDisplay.png) on the default-skin.
I wanted my callsign to be displayed in right up corner.

So I edited the picDisplay.png (100x50 pixel) and
                 wrote my callsign
in it. I wrote it back and because the background is
                 being zoomed up
to about 1400x700 pixel the letters became very muddy...

So I did a new picture with about 600x300 pixel and
                 this was
                 displayed much smoother and nicer.
                 And now my problems begann...

If I pushed the ptt and than released it the
                 panadapter showed up the
received sigs again but sometimes no sound came from
                 the speakers!
After a few seconds (5 to 10) sound came back.

I then changed the picDisplay.png to a new picture
                 with 1600x800
pixel and then reproduceable every time no sound after
                 ptt-release
                 ever since...
Changed back to 100x50 pixel and every thing works
                 great again.
