If you read the QST review this month, it says the SSB transmit audio
is "simply amazing" the best they have ever heard.

Also, John Basilotto, the COO and marketing motivator, as a bit of a
reputation as a perfectionist in the SSB world so the 5000 was
designed from the beginning to be one of the best sounding rigs in the
world.

I think the recent discussion had more to do with the audio chain in
rigs in general.

I owned a W2ihy equalizer with an inexpensive (-+100 buck) mike with
my old rigs (althought I must admit that I hardly ever use it), but
with the 5000, I just bypass the EQ part and just use the line section
to the 5000 (I do use balanced connectors fwiw)
