OK ... but here is a copy of a post I made to the VHF reflector on the weekend in response to noise about some Icom 9100 ... I truly believe that there is more of a market than one might think.
IMHO ... another case of 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag from a VHF perspective ... I don't believe there is currently anything high performance for us VHF'ers. Just too much stuff crammed in to be good at everything and be intuitive and easy to use ... always a compromise when combining so much. I really like my Flex 5000 and I will be at the top of the list for adding V/U upgrade to it later this fall. Personally I could do without with U part as well ... if a VHF rig doesn't have 222 then why bother stretching performance up to 432 ... just easier to run all outboard after 2m. On my wish list is simply a high performance rig for 6 and 2 with easy TVTR interface ... if you really have add more then I guess 28 MHz would be handy ... been waiting forever so I doubt it is going to happen anytime soon. They can get rid of built in antenna tuners too ... never could understand forcing something to do what it doesn't want to do rather just using the right thing. I guess the FT-736R came closest, but it really needed one more slot so you could 6,2,222,432,1296 all in one box ... something like that now with 100W per band and panadapter capabilities like the Flex would be great. -----Original Message----- From: Tim Ellison [mailto:telli...@itsco.com] Sent: Monday, August 24, 2009 8:23 PM To: Kevin Hobbs; 'Ray J'; FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Subject: RE: [Flexradio] V/U Upgrade Now, now.
