I just tried stringing up a 30 dipole, new coax, etc instead of using the
miracle MMD (which is an end fed antenna). Same problem, so it's not the
antenna.

The mic cable is the stock cable from Heil, so I assume it's good and proper
cable.

Any other ideas from anybody?

Issues

You may want to try lifting the chassis ground off the XLR ground. Also
remember XLR audio is balanced so you don't want either of the XLR mic pins
grounded or tied to the shield or chassis.

Sometimes NO ground at all on an XLR connector works....you get these ground
loops and current floating around which makes the audio connection
UNbalanced, and greats hum, RF paths, etc.

Another thing...take a look at the innards of your mic cable. If it's an
XLR, you should have twisted pair for the two mic leads, which may or may
not be wrapped in a shield. For XLR, think of your audio line much as you
would think of a balanced antenna & feedline.
