Greetings,

Having a problem with FMP10a.

When I create a new record in a database, it takes about 60-80 seconds for the record to become available. In between the time I hit the cmd-N key and the record's availability, I get the multi- colored spinning ball.

This is a database that was originally created in FMP5 and has been transported up to FMP10 through FMP6 and FMP9.

It has 26,000+ records in it. Mostly text but with some images. There is full indexing on the primary text field, which does have some lengthy text in some records.

The datafile is being offered up on another machine running it in standard FMP10. It has NO DELAYS in generating and making available a new record.

What could be causing this problem?

To make it easier for us to sort this out, Chuck, could you identify (such as Computer A, Computer B, etc.):
(1) what machine the files live on,

Data file is on and offered up by a 1.0 GHz G4 operating on 10.4.11 and using standard FMP10.

(2) what machine has opened them,

Data file is being opened and generating new records slowly on a MacBook Pro operating on 10.5.8 and using FMP10a.

(3) what machine you're using to create new records in them,

The machine in item 2 (above). However, as I mentioned in the earlier posting, the machine in item 1 (above) generates new records in that data file in the normally accepted time of less than a second.

(4) whether you're using FMP Server,

Not using Server. Just the machine described in item 1 (above).

(5) how the machines are networked, and

Problem occurs whether using the hard-wire LAN connection or using the wifi portion of the LAN.

(6) whether the problem occurs with ALL files or just the one with the 26,000 records.

Just the one datafile. Other datafiles, not quite as large, don't seem to have this problem.

Size of the problematic data file is 927MB.

Chuck
