Daniel,
when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL, you see a list of programs running.
- kill as much apps as possible & run Protel to see any diff.
the network thing can be slow if you install Protel on the network instead
of local on your hard drive. (include libraries & data files on local
drive).
- remove the network & see if it improves
Protel have a memory leak, so try to exit Protel once every hour (more or
less depends on the functions you use. ie. copper pour)
Let the people here know when you know the reasons.
Cheers,
Phan Le

Subject: [PEDA] Speed problem with Protel 99SE in PCB editor !
Hello gang:
Have any of you noticed how slow the pcb editor operations work. Even with
small file sizes I have noticed that simple operations can be very slow. I
am wondering if any of you can give some insights on how to speed up the
software. I am using a Pentium III 600MHz with 512M of high speed RAM. I
would expect no hesitation when I am selecting, moving, placing in the
editor. Some other Protel users in our company are complaining of the same
problem. We are connected to a network, and although that may have something
to do with it, I do not think this is the culprit. One user tells me his
harddrive seems to be very active while he is doing his edits. Does this
indicate a stretch of the RAM resources ?? All input is appreciated.
Thank you,
Daniel Webster
