What is displayed on the monitor if you boot the machine with the
monitor disconnected, then after you are reasonably sure that the
failure has manifested itself, you plug the monitor in (and turn it on)?

nothing.. the screen is black and the power indicator is orange (when the monitor is on it's green).. the monitor is just turned off and I can't change it..
