OK.  My testing indicates that the one-liner was critical to the AI as well as 
the tests, and we do not need the post-read fixup in Game.  git.62cb67a is 
looking good to me.

If you are happy with the core of the production system, I am hoping BR#2517, 
BR#2530, BR#2535, and BR#2544 are fixed.  Can any of these be closed?
