Hi! Some words from me (sent to Jim, but don'T know if he get/read it): Please remove from freedos.org:
>To run old DOS games (like DOOM, etc.) >To run old business software that only supports DOS The word "old" is very bad! Why should be somebody interested in FreeDOS, if it is only for old software? (Maybe that's a fact, but it shouldn't be posted at FreeDOS page). Maybe we can start a contest?! Question "How are you using DOS?" - answers could be posted to freedos.org. (and please don't answer: I am using it in DOSEMU, DOSBOX etc. ;-) I am using it for -) file managing - because it starts in 1 second -) playing mp3s and oggs - because it starts in 1 second and -) playing videos (very cool, if mplayer would work in DOS WITHOUT problems) -) developing and testing/debugging -) edit -) if I would have internet access, I would look for E-Mails -) if I would have internet access, I would browsing through internet And there should be also a _vision_ at the homepage. f.e. adding of new features. Now if I read at freedos.org I saw, that there is version 1.0....but will this be all? What are the goals? > > It seems that FreeDOS project is in another crisis now. There is nobody > > who develops kernel (compatibility with MS-DOS is still not perfect), we > > still lack some disk utilities for FAT32 and so on. Maybe defrag lacks fat32 support (without bugs). BUT...there are much more important things, like sound/hardware-drivers, other file systems or multimedia-player or browser or taskmanager (very important I think)... > Well I do develop 2036, but nobody said there was a MS DOS compat issue. Cool to hear this! > > > http://www.drdosprojects.de/forum/drp_forum/ and http://www.drdos.org > > Why nobody from FreeDOS team goes there? Enhanced-Dr-DOS is only the kernel... But FreeDOS is a distribution... we shouldn't mix them... > > For example: recently made a small "revolution" fact that console player > > MPlayer can be runned from DOS (using HX-DOS extender). Not for me... :-( But I hope it will in the future ;-) Thanks to Japheth. > That is nice. I assume it will also run in FreeDOS that way? Yes.
