That is the problem with the extended characters, as you pointed out
before. Maybe I don't understand all of the issues with the
conversion?
My point is that It isn't simply replacing a module or two. The logic
throughout the application is dependent on those ID's. Changing to all
numeric ID's will require some re-writing. Then I need a set of icons
so the different classes can be identified in the ZMI. Now I create
the class instances with a mneumonic and a random string of digits. We
have to drop the mneumonic.
So, yes it will require some rewriting but not redesign AFAIK.
