I've seen something very similar, but in my case I don't think that it is a MTU probalem as other machines work fine across the same link. What is noticable is that on each machine where I've had this the Securemote Virtual adapter has been disabled in Device Manger & can not be enabled,
If you check the adapter within the device manager my guess is that it'll be disabled. I've not yet found a solution for this other than a total re-install (OS, SR the lot) I've sucessfully used a number of different ADSL routers (with & without firewalls) & never had to configure anything special on them, form home I currently use a LINUX machine (running IPCOP) & again have never had to open any ports to make it all work (having said that I suspect IPCOP allows most stuff out anyway as a default ) As one other thing to check, if you are using an ADSL router, make sure that the IP range it is issuing isn't within the encryption domain as I've seen this cause problems..
