Advantages of running SPLAT on DL380 or Dell Poweredge 1800s: 1) You can put a shit load of memory on it. I think the Dell PowerEdge is capable of having up to 12GB on it 2) Intel hardware is very cost effective (aka cheap and widely available), 3) RAID redundancies Advantages of running Checkpoint on Nokia: 1) IPSO clustering or VRRP for free since it comes with IPSO 2) when you do "fw unloadlocal" on the firewall, you simply run "ipsofwd admin on" and you will be able to make the nokia route. If everyone is pointing to the VRRP ip, limited connectivity is restored. Disadvantages of running SPLAT: 1) Extra cost for clusterXL, 2) If you do "fw unloadlocal" on the firewall, and all the clients is pointing to the clusterXL IP, they will not have connectivity until the firewall is up and running again, In the end, it comes down to personal preferences. I prefer Nokia but I also like SPLAT as well.
