Did you know that having that much memory might actually decrease
performance in linux as long as you're running in 32 bit mode? Memory
access above 896MB (HIGHMEM) is slower than access to the 16-896MB
(NORMAL) memory blocks. Using 1GB instead of 4GB might because of this
give you better performance unless you're hitting swap with only 1GB
(hitting swap is *much* much slower).
