Wow! $5 for a 233 MHz Wallstreet is quite a steal! Hat off! I'm currently using Mac OS X on my Pismo 400 full time. I really like it. The nice thing about it is that you get all the benefits from Unix without having to know much about Unix. I also used to use OS X on a Wallstreet 300 for quite some time. The performance was pretty decent. Get a lot of memory, if you can. The only annoying thing about the Wallstreet is that its internal video accelerator is not currently supported by OS X. So, all applications that require OpenGL with hardware acceleration cannot run. You cannot also play full screen QuickTime movies. But, other than that, it's pretty good. The video chipset in the Pismo is fully supported and even though the performance across the board is good, it's not as much as you would expect for a machine that is supported. In its native habitat, the code grinder often removes the suit jacket to reveal an underplumage consisting of button-down shirt (starch optional) and a tie. In times of dire stress, the sleeves (if long) may be rolled up and the tie loosened about half an inch. It seldom helps. The code grinder's milieu is about as far from hackerdom as one can get and still touch a computer; the term connotes pity. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
