There are still a few processes that I believe are run by root, until the
machine is fully booted up. That's when your settings take over. I could be
wrong, but I did change the ColorSync profile on my Pismo under root. Then,
whenever I reboot my laptop, the correct ColorSync profile is set and I have
no longer a change when I log in. Of course, I might be wrong with
auto-login, but still, there are still a few things that run under root at
startup.

The other way to recover from this would be to do a reset.
