If you want to make it little more complicated to break in then use WEP - it is easy to configure and does not cause any problems. If you want to keep your network open just leave it as it is. I protect mine, but know that it is just to discourage regular users. Determined hacker could break in, but why would they break into mine when there are other 4 networks in my building that are not protected...
Personally I recommend to setup WEP if you have anything on your computer that could compromise you - account numbers, credit card numbers, PINs, financial statements. On top of WEP I have each machine on my network setup with additional level of security - enabled firewall on both windows and mac machines... Call me paranoid.
