Do you have an Airport or a third party base station? I would bet you can use the same
password on an airport as on your Mac. Apple is using the password you enter as a seed
to produce a 128 bit encryption code using their own proprietary algorithm. If you use
third party equipment, then you need to use a hex password, because the third party
equipment doesn't know how to hash the Apple password to make it into the right 128
bit code. So don't use a $ on your third party equipment and do use it on your Apple
setup.
