No, it's slotted in fine, it seems as if it is slightly warped.
It seems to bow upwards a little towards the right creating
a gap on the right hand side.

I cannot remember of the Pismo has this but the Wallstreet has that little wire handle to pull the heatsink/cover up off the CPU and ram. That handle stuck in the up position on a Wallstreet I was working on just the other day producing a result very similar to what you describe.
