I know the drive worked, I tested it with my G4 first.

So did it work with DVD images without using hardware decoding on the G4?

Not sure I understand the question....I had a combo drive in an external FW case. I was able to watch a Star Wars DVD playing in the external drive on my G4 powerbook. I could not watch anything on my 333mhz (no built-in decoder) Lombard with the same setup. I only tested it on the G4 with a video DVD to make sure it worked.
